Terms of use
The short version. Nolelo is in beta and free while it is. What you put into it stays yours. AI help has a daily allowance and can be wrong. Don't misuse the service. Export your words now and then, because beta software can lose things. You can delete your account at any time.
1. Who we are
Nolelo is made by Netpixels Pty Ltd (ABN 39 666 681 009), a company registered in Australia (“we”, “us”). These terms are an agreement between you and us. By creating an account or using Nolelo you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains what we do with your information and is part of these terms.
2. Who can use Nolelo
You must be at least 16. One account is for one person: keep your password to yourself, and tell us at support@nolelo.com if you think someone else has used your account.
3. The beta
Nolelo is beta software, delivered through Apple's TestFlight. It is free during the beta. Features will change, some may be removed, and things may break. We will tell you in the app or by email before the beta ends or before Nolelo starts to cost anything; nothing you do during the beta commits you to paying later.
Your words and reviews are kept on your device and, when you are signed in, synced through our servers. We work to keep them safe, but during the beta please use Settings → Export deck backup from time to time, so a copy is always yours.
4. Your content
The words, sentences, notes and writing you put into Nolelo stay yours. You give us permission to store them, sync them between your devices, and process them to run the features you use, including sending the text a feature needs to our AI provider, as the privacy policy describes. That permission is only for running Nolelo for you, and it ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from the short backup period the privacy policy describes.
Don't put anything into Nolelo that you don't have the right to use, and please don't put sensitive information into text you send to AI.
5. AI features and their limits
Some features use AI to explain, check or improve text. AI answers can be wrong or incomplete: they are learning aids, not advice to rely on for anything important.
Each account has a daily AI allowance, currently 150 requests, which resets at midnight UTC. There is also a limit across all users, so on a busy day AI help can pause for everyone until it resets. Everything else in Nolelo keeps working when AI is unavailable. We may change these limits during the beta.
6. Using Nolelo fairly
Please don't:
- use scripts, bots or other automated means to create accounts, call our servers or use the AI features;
- try to get around the daily allowance or other limits, for example with several accounts;
- probe, overload or interfere with our servers, or access another person's data;
- use Nolelo, or its AI features, to create anything unlawful, harmful or abusive;
- copy, resell or redistribute Nolelo or its content, such as the grammar lessons and exercises.
If you do, we may limit or suspend your account. Unless it would be unsafe or unlawful to, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to export your data first.
7. Our content and third-party services
Nolelo's software, design, lessons and exercises belong to us or our licensors. You may use them to learn, through the app, while these terms apply.
Word definitions come from the Free Dictionary API, a service we don't run, and AI answers come from Google's Gemini API. We aren't responsible for those services being available or accurate.
8. Ending your use
You can stop using Nolelo at any time, and delete your account and its synced data in Settings → Delete Account. We may end the beta, or close an account that breaks these terms, as section 6 describes. When we end the beta we'll give you at least 30 days' notice, so you can export your data.
9. What we promise, and what we don't
We provide Nolelo with reasonable care and skill. Beyond that, and as far as the law allows, Nolelo is provided “as is” during the beta, without any promise that it will be available at all times, free of errors, or right for your particular purpose.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law, or under the consumer law of the country you live in, that can't lawfully be excluded. Where we are allowed to limit our liability for failing to meet such a guarantee, our liability is limited to supplying the service again or paying the cost of having it supplied again.
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data you could have protected by exporting it.
10. Apple
If you got Nolelo through Apple, these terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to support Nolelo, and isn't responsible for it or for any claim about it. Apple's own terms for TestFlight and the App Store also apply, and Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms as third-party beneficiaries.
11. Changes to these terms
When these terms change we update the date at the top. If a change matters to you, we tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you don't agree with a change, you can delete your account before it applies.
12. The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia, and the courts there can hear any dispute about them. If you live in another country, you keep the protection of its consumer laws and can bring a claim in your local courts. Before going to court, please email us: most problems are faster to fix in a conversation.
